Aachen this week: what the World Championship asks of a designer
Jumping at the FEI World Championships in Aachen opens Wednesday 19 August (speed / first qualifier), with this post going up on Thursday 20th while the week is live. Team medals are Friday 21 August. The individual final is Sunday 23 August. Frank Rothenberger (GER) is the course designer.
World of Showjumping, from an FEI press release, put 146 riders from 51 nations in the field: 31 teams and 25 individuals. Seven Olympic team places for Los Angeles 2028 are on the line for the highest-ranked eligible teams. The United States cannot take one of those seven because they host the Games.
Sweden defend both titles from Herning 2022. Great Britain send Scott Brash, Harry Charles, Ben Maher, Jack Whitaker and Adrian Whiteway. Germany ride at home with Richard Vogel on United Touch S among others. Official start lists live on the Aachen 2026 jumping programme and FEI.

Watch the questions, not the brands
A championship track is still a related distance, a turn, and a fence a tired horse has to see. Rothenberger has to produce a speed class on Wednesday that ranks teams without emptying the collecting ring, then a two-round team final that still leaves an individual competition standing.
If you build unaffiliated on a Tuesday night, steal the method, not the height. One hard question in the middle. A finish you can see from a long way out. Numbers that match the horse in front of you, not a screenshot from the Soers.
Set the real arena in the designer and walk the line before you copy anything you saw on a phone.
Olympic tickets sit on the team days
Friday is not only a medal ceremony. The same team result is the first big LA28 qualifier. That is why nations bring five combinations and why substitutions (the US already made one before the show) matter more than a colour-piece about a debut nation.
If you write a schedule for a county show, the lesson is dull and useful: publish who rides, who is reserve, and which round decides the league. People argue less when that is on the PDF.
