How upgrades work
Paid upgrades run through PayPal checkout on the pricing page. When payment completes, the app calls the verifySubscriptionPayment Cloud Function, which:
- Confirms the PayPal order status and amount against the server-side plan price.
- Writes a receipt to
subscriptionPayments/{orderId}(clients cannot forge this). - Updates your
users/{uid}profile tier — Firestore rules block self-escalation oftierfrom the browser.
If verification is not configured in the deployment environment, checkout fails closed and your tier stays unchanged.
Trials and billing management
Admins can grant time-limited trials from the console. Manage renewal and invoices from Settings → Billing.
