Sunday in Lyon. Second indoor World Cup of the winter

Indoor jump-off course plan

The Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Western European League is in Lyon this week. The FEI calendar puts the CSI5*-W at Eurexpo from 27 October to 1 November, with the World Cup class on Sunday 1 November at 15:30 local time. That is the second qualifier after Oslo.

Kirsty Pasto's 11 October FEI report has Max Kühner and EIC Up Too Jacco Blue winning the opener in 40.52 seconds. Nine of 40 went through to the jump-off. Fredrik Malm (SWE) set 13 obstacles and 16 efforts, time allowed 72 seconds. Kühner leads the league on 20 points.

An athlete's best seven results from 13 venues count. Lyon is where that table starts to mean something.

Three indoor classes at about 1.60 m

The French federation calls this the 32nd Equita Lyon, 28 October to 1 November at Lyon-Eurexpo. The same week it hosts four world-level competitions under one roof: the Jumping World Cup, the Dressage World Cup, the Driving World Cup, and the FEI Jumping Ponies' Trophy.

Equita's ticket pages give the jumping shape. Friday 30 October, Longines Grand Prix CSI5*-W from 19:30, obstacles about 1.60 m. That class is the qualifier for Sunday. Saturday 31 October, Equita Masters presented by Hermès Sellier, also about 1.60 m, two rounds. Sunday the World Cup, again about 1.60 m. FEI lists 15:30. The organiser prints from 15:00. Use 15:30.

FEI Jumping World Cup rules 2026/27 set indoor World Cup speed at 350 m/min minimum. Outdoor is 375 to 400. If you build winter indoors at club level, 350 is the figure that belongs on the plan, not a copied outdoor 375.

The organiser is GL events Equestrian Sport & Equita Concours.

Who is already in the book

Cheval Magazine, 26 October names Olivier Perreau as last year's World Cup winner on GL events Dorai d'Aiguilly. He comes back. Steve Guerdat arrives as individual world champion from Aachen this summer. Martin Fuchs has won this Lyon World Cup three times, in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Hippobase's CSI5*-W list, dated 22 October, has Jodie Hall McAteer and Ben Maher for Great Britain. France has a long home list including Kevin Staut, Julien Epaillard, Nina Mallevaey and Perreau.

No published course designer for the 2026 Lyon World Cup has turned up in the FEI notes. Watch how Friday's Grand Prix rides. That is the first read on the indoor.

Ponies in the same halls

The Ponies' Trophy second leg sits on the same dates. After Herning, the provisional standings have Mienie Vos (NED) on 20, Portia Taylor-Wilson (GBR) on 17 and Tabby Morgan-Evans (GBR) on 15. Three results count from four qualifying shows. Stuttgart is next, then Salzburg, then the Mechelen final.

The FFE programme puts Trophy classes on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October.

If you are building a winter indoor this weekend, open the designer, set 350 m/min, and keep the related distances honest for the school you actually have. Then watch Sunday at 15:30.
